Impossible to take a shower - it goes from burning hot to ice cold and back again without ever touching the knobs.

We loved the historic property and the proximity to bars/restaurants/ The Alamo. The room was clean and comfortable. The only issue was that the fifth floor hallway smelled of urine and was quite strong.

Don’t go anywhere else!! This hotel was awesome from the Valet to the manager everyone was helpful polite and knowledgeable. You will love everything. Best stay ever.

Outlets didn’t work, parking extremely expensive. Very hot, thermostat wouldn’t go lower than 74. Walls paper thin, could hear toddlers screaming.

The only problem here is parking. Other than that it's a place everyone should try. Historic site. Right beside the Alamo. The bar is where Teddy Roosevelt interviewed and hired the Rough Riders. Oldest operating hotel in Texas.

Room wasn’t very clean. Found a pill on the floor, dirty pillowcase. AC never cooled. Coldest it got was 76 degrees. Shower was awful. Fluctuated between freezing cold and scalding hot.

Employees were super nice and helpful. The rooms were pretty clean, but could use some extra attention in common areas. Having a fridge was nice and coffee maker was great! NOTE: there were a bunch of younger people staying there running up and down the halls at night, late, banging on all the doors.

My husband and I have stayed here several times and always had wonderful experiences. Unfortunately, most recent stay under new management was disappointing. We arrived Wednesday evening to find the elevator out of service. We understand things break, but this seemed to set the tone for the stay. We also noticed the signature scent from the diffusers, something we always enjoyed, was gone. Once in our room, we found a half roll of toilet paper and no spare. I went to the front desk to request another roll, but was told it had to be delivered to the room, which took about 45 mins. The next morning, we discovered there was no bottled water in the room despite a sign stating it was complimentary. During previous stays, this had never been an issue. We left around 10:30am and saw housekeeping in the hallway. When we returned around 4:30pm our room had not been serviced. There were no fresh towels, the toilet paper had not been replaced, and the body wash dispenser was still empty. When I called the front desk, I was told guests must request housekeeping and bottled water! I suggested these policies should be explained at check-in, but received no response. The requested items were delivered within 20 mins but the overall experience lacked the hospitality and attention to detail we remembered from previous visits. We truly miss the experience under the former management. Also, the AC was not running well which is a must in Texas! Sad to say but we will not be staying here again!

This hotel is really cool- especially if you want to show your kids old nostalgia- phone booths, mail slots, and past presidents and the wars they fought. We enjoyed it.

I have stayed at the Menger Hotel twice now. The first time I was in the queen-size room, it was decently spacious. I was not a big fan of stepping up to use the bathroom, but it was also not a big deal for me. Also, the outlets on the nightstand lamps were very loose. The second time I stayed here, I had the petite room. The room is very small, and the double-size bed is not suitable for two people. The tub had water filled up when I got there, so I had to dig my hand through it to open the stopper. Not sure how they are cleaning the mirrors because when I finished showering, I noticed someone had steam-written "help me" on the mirror. Likely a prank or haunted activity, who knows? The shower heads are not the best, and the water temperature fluctuates. I am not a fan of the vanity and towels being placed at the foot. The AC is basically hanging on by a thread in these rooms. Amenities. The worst part of my experience was the gym. It is very poor. There were no cleaning supplies to clean the equipment. Not very sanitary. The gym was very small, with carpeted floors, a smell, and not great ventilation. I did not get to swim in the pool, but it looked decent. I did like the garden, but they need to do something about the mosquitoes. Final thoughts: I likely would not stay at this hotel again, but if I did, it would not be in the petite room. I did not find the beds to be very comfortable. Gym condition is a huge negative for me. location great.

We loved the location next to the Alamo and center of downtown San Antonio. We loved the architecture of the building, the lovely courtyard and the historical photos and memorabilia. We enjoyed the oldest saloon downstairs in the Menger. We've always wanted to stay at this historical gem; and, it did not disappoint. The decor at the Menger is nice; but it does show its age a bit.

Loved our stay here. We didn't need our car for the 2 days we stayed. Everything is right there for things to do. We saw security everywhere, so it is very safe. The hotel itself has a great history. We used the pool, which was nice, went to the bar which was interesting with a great past. We arrived late and the gentleman who helped us was incredibly nice. I wish I had gotten his name. I would highly recommend staying here.

The hotel contacted me and told me my room was ready. I retrieved our luggage and went up to the room only to find another families luggage in the room. I went back down to the front desk and they gave me the keys to the correct room. I took my family up to our room only to find the door wide open with housekeeping cart sitting outside. It's 5:30 at this time. The room was dirty, the sheets were on the floor and everything was in dissaray. 10 minutes later, the housekeeper walks in to see my family standing in the room. She proceeds to clean as her supervisor calls down to the front desk to find out why we were given access to a dirty room. The front desk takes no accountability. Eventually the room is ready... well after 6pm. The shower had a considerable amount of mold in it. The water was either scalding hot or freezing cold. If you just turned on the hot water, it was HOT, but there was barely any water pressure. If you turned on the cold water just a little to increase pressure, the water became cold IMMEDIATELY. So, we took cold showers the entire weekend. The TV is supposed to have NETFLIX and other apps but none of them work. I just got repeated error messages. I contacted management through the app twice and never received a response.
