Surfbreak Virginia Beach Oceanfront, an Ascend Collection Hotel

This property was on the beach, had a restaurant attached. It was well located on a calmer area. Hotel had a pool, easy access to the beach with showers, chair and umbrellas to rent, also near a bike rental.

The hotel looks kind of dirty BUT it’s a beach hotel and older so overall we were happy. They need to paint and replace carpet with cleanable flooring. We had the suite which was very roomy with a big bathroom. The beds were comfy. The location was great, the pool was small but nice. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and I liked the texting during our stay asking if all was good. I did not enjoy the bar music downstairs being loud pretty much all day until 1am. In the room, it was quiet but on the balcony or in the pool was constant noise…

Staff was wonderful. The room was much nicer than expected as the exterior does not have great curb appeal. It was a nice stay. Nice beach view. Complimentary coffee and water was wonderful.

On the positive side, the beach view was nice and the restaurant had good food/open late. The bed was decently comfortable but the room in general was in serious need of some TLC. For the price of the hotel room, I expect a better presentation and experience. Overall, I would probably look for a different place to stay next time.

Hotel was very clean. Anything we needed they got right away. The only thing I would say is to keep the pool open longer. We love a night swim.

This place was absolutely perfect! Staff was super friendly and accommodating. Rooms were clean and was much cheaper than the hotel we moved from (bad review on that one) If I go back to Va beach, definitely staying here again!

Nice place and good location

Didn’t use the pool but the restaurant/bar had great food. Could use some fine tuning on maintenance… toilet was stained and scuffed, the bottom of the door was broken and repaired so it wiggled, the toilet paper holder arm was wonky & the screen door to the balcony kept wanting to fall out of track BUT over all, a great stay. No issues with hot water and the AC worked super well!!

Perfect location to beach and many restaurants and shopping. At first was concerned about off site parking but ended up being really close and easy to get to.

Con:'s The 1st room was on the bottom floor. When I made the reservation, it did not say anything about being on the bottom floor. But the desk clerk stated that is what I paid for. The patio was facing the pool. Anyone could look straight into the room from the pool. The desk clerk stated to close the curtains. Who wants to sit in a dark room most of the time. They gave me another room. 2nd room: Refrigerator was not cooling. The maintenance man(I guess that is who he was) came and check it after my husband went to the desk clerk to tell her it was not cooling. He stated it was a old refrigerator and that is what they do. I thought we could get a replacement or something. He did say I will see about getting you a discount for this. Never heard from anyone again. I don't like the fact that if you don't use valet, you have to park your car in a sketchy looking parking lot on next block from the hotel.

I enjoy the first hotel room, no complaints five star plus

While we did enjoy our stay we did find a live spider in our bed our first night.
