Hyatt Place Birmingham/Hoover

The room itself was clean but the property was in need of major repair. The breakfast was disappointing. The pool was clean but the pool area needed major attention almost to the point that someone could have been injured. Would not recommend staying here.

My family and I stayed at this hotel two years ago while passing through Birmingham and decided to stay here again on a second pass through trip as it was fairly decent the first time. The property is in a good location for us. The lobby was welcoming; however that was where anything positive to say about the property stopped. The other areas of the property were just not maintained: dirty walls, damaged drywall that had not been repaired, scratches in wood. We were traveling with our dog on this particular trip and therefore was put up in a room on the first floor. This room had entirely laminate flooring, but it was quite apparent that these floors are not mopped between guests. The toilet seat was so loose it felt as though it was going to fall off and the room did not smell clean nor feel clean. We had finished a 10 hour drive to get here and we were just there to sleep so we just went to bed and left early in the morning. We tried to have breakfast at the hotel in the morning before another long drive, but it was not very good nor have much to offer: one choice of cereal, no fruit, no yogurt, no OJ, the milk had ice crystals in it so trying to drink it or use it for cereal was not good at all. We ended up just leaving and getting something elsewhere. We have usually had very pleasant stays at Hyatt properties, particularly Hyatt Place; however we were pretty disappointed with our stay at this one.

The hand washer was in sleeping room than in restroom and it disturbed the sleep whenever anyone goes there

The front desk told us the swimming pool was ready to swim. Then when we get there, there is a closed sign on the pool. After asking her again, she said it’s good and took the sign down. Then after my children and I swim for 40 minutes she pulls us out and says we haven’t been tested or approved my health department so she closes the pool again

Exceptional

Room had a nasty musky smell. The breakfast was a bag or tortillas, a jar of salsa, and a container of tap water. No juice, milk, or anything. The employee was rude and very unhelpful.

Staff were attentive, location was perfect for the purpose of my visit.

Shower had hair in it, barely had towels and the breakfast was awful.

Nice hotel. A little outdated and the staff weren't very friendly. But the room was clean and comfortable and the price was right.

Please be aware the website and the listing lie — there is no restaurant or bar on sight. The pool was closed for 4 days (each day they promised it would be open the next), and breakfast is awful! There is no fresh fruit, no cereal, no yogurt, no oatmeal, and 2 days there was not even milk! The options were eggs, sausage, a few stale bagels and breads. The rooms were sticky and musty. The “fresh grab to go” container was off and empty the entire time. The “cocktail and Starbucks bar” was never opened and just piled with junk. This is not worth what I paid and Hyatt needs to do something about the website listing amenities that are not even available!

I expect much more from Hyatt Place hotels. I've loved them in other locations. This one has gone significantly downhill, though. Cleanliness was the main concern. Stained sheets and furniture don't inspire confidence. There were various other cracks and marks all over the room (wall, ceilings, etc.) and some kind of substance on the bathroom doorknob.

If the pool is out of commission, it needs to say that on the website. Picked this hotel because of the pool. The layouts of the room were definitely an afterthought. Too many better hotels in that area but they are without a pool, but that obviously didn't matter that weekend
