Our room door only locked occasionally. No lift. stairs on a slant An education but met our budget!

Sharing a bathroom wasn’t as horrible as I was expecting, but walking up the scary, creaky, uneven narrow staircase was not my favorite. Especially after doing 20k steps around NYC, climbing 4 stories and then having our key not work. Twice.

I'd say The Flat was OK, a pretty good value for the price in NYC. The amenities were a bit run down; the carpets were a bit threadbare, the stairs leaned, and the toilet paper holder had been pulled out the wall. Rooms are small, but functional.
-
There’s no elevators and the only staff that helped me were the cleaning ladies. If you plan on making a trip WITHOUT suitcase i say it’s good but the rooms are overly tiny for the price.

I think they should be more honest that this is more like a hostel than a hotel. I was not prepared to share a bathroom, and did not notice when booking it cleary stating that you would need to share a bathroom.

We chose this hotel based on great reviews, but our experience was highly disappointing. The only positive was being allowed to check in early, though the front desk agent seemed bothered rather than welcoming. The major issues began at 10 PM with a heavy metal storage room door right outside our room slamming repeatedly for an hour, startling us awake. I messaged the hotel; they apologized and stopped it, but the disruption was already done. Later, we heard front-entrance doors slamming too. The hotel refused a refund because they were "full," and even Expedia couldn't convince them (though Expedia stepped up and gave us a $200 credit for the awful experience). To make matters worse, the next morning at 9:15 AM, there was no coffee available. When I mentioned it, a staff member rudely yelled that it wouldn't be ready for 30 minutes. Later, we returned to find the front desk thought we had checked out and were about to clear our room with all our belongings inside! The room quality was poor: clean but stained towels, mismatched/tacky toiletry bottles, and a king bed pushed against a wall, making it hard to get out. The mattress was so cheap we could feel the springs. Look elsewhere for better service and comfort. I do not recommend this property.

Great spot, the curtain on the window shade was broken so there was no natural light but t

Sheets were dirty, towels had yellow spots on them.

It was clean with good location. Shared toilet was sometimes not clean due to users not considerate about others.
-
The location and the fact that it was clean Because of the rain it was kind of leaking from the window and the noise of the leak was really unpleasant

The room size was fine and the room and bathroom adequately clean. The staff at the coffee spot nice. Staff had blank stares, made you wait without telling you what was going on - zero energy or warmth. The window shade was broken - could not open the window shade to get light, they did not fix it. The window was opened by the air con in the window which was not moveable - made the entire room freezing, and cigarette and weed smell from the smokers below entered freely all night. No way to change - I tries to block it by sleeping with my suitcsae in front of the aircon ontop the bed. The heat went on and off at its own will - making it very hot and then freezing. As it was off when I came, it then melted my suitcase when it turned itself on. Staff listened to my issue of a curling iron plug breaking into the wall, they said an electrician would check it out, writing or pretending to write it down. It was never checked, the room was not cleaned, the new desk person had no idea what I was talking about when I returned. They did not clean or service the room. Loud sex from a neighbor who brought in a prostitute, sounded like it was in your room.

The bedroom was quite comfortable. If you choose a shared bathroom room, the bathroom is impeccably clean. Staff was quite kind. Plenty to do within walking distance. Would stay here again!

Apparently a converted boarding house, this property retains much of its former vibe. A good budget option, but don't expect frills. The interior has been nicely if simply upgraded, but the entrance still looks like you're walking into a random restaurant basement, the bathrooms are two to a floor, and the windows only barely filter out the street noise. But if all you need is a decent place to sleep, The Flat is worth considering.

The rooms were cozy, and the location was close to the office. The hotel is also clean. Not having to climb up 5 flights of crooked stairs. If you have a heart condition find another hotel. The rooms are small, which is ok. The hotel was clean and the staff was nice. The hotel is also conveniently close to a lot of things and the rates were reasonable.

The place was really nice. The communal bathrooms were decently clean and the staff were wonderful. They were kind and held our bags for us after checkout.

The hotel is in a great central location. It is simple and meets basic needs. The staff are all very nice and helpful The room was small and the bed was too soft.

The bed did not have a box spring or any sort of support beams, which led to our mattress literally sinking through the gaping holes in the frame. Awfully uncomfortable and led to terrible sleeps. The shared bathrooms would not have been so bad if there were more / it was more proportionate to how many rooms there are. Also one of the bathrooms was locked and unusable for the majority of our stay. This meant needing to travel down to another floor if you needed to use the washroom. Overall a pretty uncomfortable stay and would not recommend it to anyone.

Great location and easy to access subways and buses. Clean room and bathroom. Water not consistently hot enough when showering, twice during my stay shower was room temperature (at least it wasn’t cold). Not the quietest as the floors and walls are not carpeted/wallpapered so sound carries, earplugs/earbuds can help. Good internet, I was able to do video calls for work, but you are staying here for the location, not to hang out in the room! If price is right, would stay again.

Everything was great!

Very cute affordable hotel right in Chelsea. I loved the central location having lived in the area in the past. The hotel is simple with shared bath. This is fine for me as I am used to old skool B&B's in the uk which were all like that back before the 2000's. The bathrooms as very clean. I will stay again but, next time, will specify a room on a lower floor. I was on the 5th and it was too much for me some days after a lot of walking (no elevator). Also the soundproofing is not good at the hotel. I was next to an alley which had noise all night. I made it work for me by keeping AC on. But I will also ask for a room on the other side next time.
