There is a bar on the ground floor which has karaoke some nights starting around 9 PM and then open mic nights some other nights- which can go until 2AM. Being a old(rustic) hotel there is little sound insulation and the music/noise comes up into the rooms above quite easily...especially if you are on 2nd level directly above the bar. Lots of fun for people who are partying - but not conducive to sleeping in my experience. The staff was helpful anytime I needed anything. There is no phone in the room - so if you need the front desk you will have to call on your cell phone to the hotel. A true piece of Alaska Gold Rush era historical accommodations - but be ready for a "rustic" experience at a fair price.

The only negative was communication. After booking we were informed via Hotels.com that the desk is only manned until 4pm, and if we planned to arrive later we had to make prior arrangements with the hotel. Despite a call, text and message we could not get a response. However, we arrived at approximately midnight and was greeted at reception, so all was fine in the end. But it was stressful "not knowing"

It was super cool experience, however the pictures didn’t make it clear that you’d have communal bathrooms and showers, nor did I see it listed anywhere that we wouldn’t have one in the room. Not something I necessarily minded, but they didn’t have any ventilation in the bathrooms so it felt and smelt really dirty. Like you were showering in a Porta potty, it was hard to feel clean staying here. It being in the heart of downtown town made the experience worth it! I would recommend staying here I just think not knowing you’d be sharing a bathroom/ showering area with no ventilation threw me off a bit.

Rooms were great and staff was outstanding. However the property is historic and shows its age. We were on the third floor and it’s all stairs. No worries just wasn’t ready at the end of a long day for that. Bar was beautiful and certainly historic. Location is downtown and close to everything. I would stay again but I’m better prepared this time.

The bar is open till 0300, you won’t be sleeping. Have to share a bathroom with the whole floor, no air. Staff is nice.

Great place right in town for an overnight stay.

Overall good location in downtown Juneau. Was visiting for a conference so this was a great location near the convention center. We didn’t have a private shower/bathroom and the shared spaces definitely need to be upgraded. The walls and tiles are peeling. Most nights were quiet but one night was karaoke at the bar downstairs and it was extremely loud past midnight. I recommend for a quick stay and good location not for luxury.

We enjoyed our stay at the Alaskan Hotel very much! We knew it was an old hotel, built in 1913, but we enjoy unique, historic properties. That is not everyone’s preference. We had the “shared bathroom” experience because we booked last minute due to airline cancellations. That was fine with us - the bathrooms and showers were very clean - but again, that would not be everyone’s cup of tea. It was very well located for our needs so location was honestly our first concern. The staff was so nice - they let us check in early when we showed up from the airport, which we so much appreciated! Overall, it was a good but brief stay and we would book them again if we ever return to Juneau.

The Alaskan is the oldest hotel and such one needs to recognize its rustic beauty. Great location and helpful staff. Let’s keep this landmark in place, and in it’s current condition!

Location was the attraction but turned out to be the biggest negative. There was constant and often loud noise from the street continuing into the early a.m. hours.

The hotel was charming and old. You feel like you traveled back in time. The hotel is on the strip and was very convenient but at night if your room is near the street the local drunks can be loud at night. We tried to use the washing machine onsite but there is no coin machine or soap so you have to fend your self of you want to use the onsite amenities. There is parking behind the building for customers which is very nice because there is very limited parking in town.

Old hotel in need refurbishing. There is a “old plumbing smell”, and everything looks dated. There is no elevator. Staff and location were excellent. Our main issue was the lack of ventilation in the room; despite the temperature outside being 12C the room was so hot ! We opened the window but it did not help much… It’s fine for one night, but I would definitely not stay for more than 1 day at this hotel.

Old place. Rooms small. Connvienent location. Lots of steps

I pretty much knew what I was getting when I booked my stay its an old hotel and they try there best to keep it up but it obviously needs some major stabilization efforts as it is clearly not level anymore.

    On busy street

  • Engine customer Jun 2026

Quiet and bed was great. Very rustic!! 3rd floor is a tough hike with bags.

Very old, the room smelled very bad, the shared bathrooms were clean
