Reviews
-
The hotel is really top notch and in an historic building. Beautifully maintained. Parking is a bit expensive. Nice casual restaurant in the lobby floor has a good selection for breakfast, lunch, etc.
-
Perfect location for downtown activities. Staff very helpful and friendly. The room service was a bit lax, forgetting to clean our room one day and the next forgetting to leave soap. Minor blips that was likely a fluke.
-
Enjoyed the onsite dining options (had both dinner and breakfast at Hob Nob). Room was spacious, shower was amazing, bed was very comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.

In our room, the smoke detector flashed brightly all night long which was of course only noticeable with the lights out. The handle on the shower door was wobbly and should have been noticed by cleaning staff. The room design was odd. There was a Keurig-style coffee maker in the room which was snugged into a cube shaped bar area, except the height was so low you really couldn’t add water to the top of the Keurig without removing it. As if the designers had not tried to make a cup of coffee themselves. We tried to grab breakfast in the small cafe, but they wouldn’t seat us without a reservation so we ate in the East Village. Other than those sorts of annoyances, the hotel is very nice, well situated on the west end of downtown.

Our room was very nice and the hotel is in a great location. We could walk around and felt very safe! The hotel is renovated and was a great for our mini getaway!
-
Fantastic property and such a cool historical elegance. The staff is super helpful and the rooms are very clean, spacious and the perfect place to rest after a long travel day. Very conveniently located to food, Starbucks and sights.

Gives a The Shinning vibe. Has a very odd smell which is the combination of cinnamon and sage oil. The decor looks like an 20's themed party which was decorated by Amazon. The carpet with the dates was unnerving. I understand at one point this was the best hotel in Des Moines but that is not today. The staff was nice but somewhat disconnected I'm guessing because they aren't making enough to feed and shelter themselves. The parking is next door to the hotel and although not a deal breaker. If you don't mind constantly anticipating creepy twins or bleeding elevator doors this may do it for you, I would never stay here again

We purchased the breakfast and early check in and out. Our reservation said resort credits but since it didn’t say what those credits were we didn’t get the breakfast we paid for. This was very disappointing to pay extra and not get it but I feel this is expedias fault not so much the hotel’s since Expedia did not specify those credits to the hotel. Very disappointing since we splurged for a date not away from our 5 kids which rarely happens.

A beautiful, historic building, both inside and out, with attentive staff, on-site fine dining, and comfortable rooms.
-
Staff was great- just don't expect room service from the restaurant. I had to Uber food from a hotel nearby. Room was fine, housekeeping was great!
-
Very nice downtown hotel! Front desk was great as was the rest of the staff. We very much enjoyed our stay!
